SEVEN GUNS SEIZED OVER PAST WEEK

(11/28/2006) NEW HAVEN – On Tuesday, 21 November, members of the Street Interdiction Team, in cooperation with the members of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, acted on information received by Detective Pete Carusone of the department’s Firearms Unit. Police seized a Colt .38-caliber revolver, a 12 gauge Mossberg shotgun, two crack pipes and one bag of crack cocaine from two women in a vehicle in the area of 23 Lombard Street. Heidi Wilson, 36, of 291 Lenox Street, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics within 1500 feet of a school, operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1500 feet of a school. Monica Shumaker, 32, of 14 Young Street, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics within 1500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1500 feet of a school.

On Friday, 24 November, a 13-year-old male from New Haven was arrested and charged with theft of a firearm that was reported stolen that day. In addition, Kevin Gallogly, 20, of 80 Clifton Street, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. Police seized a .380-caliber handgun.

Jehoise Francis, 24, of Cassius Street, was arrested in the area of 1 Little Green on Sunday, 26 November. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance of less than four ounces, possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school, criminal trespass in the third degree and interfering with police/resisting arrest. He was also charged on a warrant for failure to appear in the first degree and on a second warrant for violation of conditional discharge. Police seized a bag of marijuana and a clip for a .32-caliber handgun. After a further search of the area, police discovered a .32 caliber handgun and 80 pieces of crack cocaine.

Just after 1 a.m. Monday, an officer making a motor vehicle stop in the area of Whalley Avenue and Sperry Street, arrested Rossie Moye, 29, of 328 Bassett Street. Officers seized a .45-caliber Glock pistol from the vehicle. Moye was charged with criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, failure to display lights and making an improper turn.

Yesterday, in the area of 29 Lilac Street, three juveniles were charged with criminal trespass in the second degree and a 16-year-old New Haven male was arrested and additionally charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and theft of a firearm. Police seized a 9-mm. semi-automatic handgun, a .32-caliber revolver, ammunition and one bag of crack.
